The winning streak continues on the road in Wichita
WICHITA, KS- In the last matchup of the current road game series, Omaha defeated Wichita in dominating fashion Saturday night 70-33. They are now 6-1 and continue to boast the best record in the CIF.
The Beef started the game hot, scoring 22-points in the first seven minutes. It began with Calvin Phillips scoring a touchdown from the arm of Derrick Bernard. Phillips followed up that score with a kickoff return for a touchdown, after the defense caused a safety. Wichita got on the scoreboard after a three-yard touchdown run by Mikhail Lindsay. Right when the Force were starting to gain some momentum after a missed field goal by Ezequiel Arevalo, it was him who made a touchdown saving tackle on the return. That tackle led to Wichita having to settle for a field goal. Omaha added a defensive score from Dezmin Reed right before halftime to extend the led 36-13.
Wichita opened the second half with a kickoff return for a touchdown, but the Beef quickly responded with a second touchdown toss from Bernard to Javon Bell. Omaha didn’t look back from there, as they went on to outscore the Force 27-7 in the third quarter. Bell finished the night with six catches for 101-yards, but it was Bernard who had a career day with the Beef with 191-yards, six passing touchdowns and no turnovers.
It was the defense who showed up again, only allowing 172-yards total and 33-points. The Beef were held to under 100-yards rushing for only the second time this season, both occasions to Wichita. The Beef are still atop of the CIF in total points given up on defense a game, at just 34.8 points per game. They also caused four turnovers, returning two for touchdowns.
